Richard Steele
Richard Steele has been in boxing for 40 years, first as a fighter and then, arguably, as boxing’s most famous and finest referee. Richard had an amateur record of 21-4 and a professional record of 16-4 with 12 KO’s.
Richard began refereeing fights in the 1970’s, and he went on to referee in 167 world title fights around the globe, more than any current or past referee. He refereed matches between Alexis Arguello and Aaron Pryor, Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns, Julio Cesar Chavez and Meldrick Taylor, Sugar Ray Leonard and Hagler as well as five title bouts with former World Heavyweight Champion, Mike Tyson. After retiring from his illustrious career, Richard was inducted in the World Boxing Hall of Fame in the fall of 2000.
